Overview

In astrology the very name 'Rahu' makes people uneasy — they immediately think of troubles and Sarpa Dosha and start to worry. Yet when someone rises almost overnight to become a millionaire in software, abroad, or in business, it is very often this same Rahu at work. Rahu is the north lunar node, a shadow planet (Chhaya Graha) of an airy nature with no zodiac sign of its own. Mythology calls it the severed head of the demon Svarabhanu, who drank the nectar of immortality at the churning of the ocean: with only a head and no stomach, nothing he consumes ever satisfies him — so Rahu is pure, unending desire. Having no house of its own, it works like a magnifier (Bhutaddam) or an agent — it takes on the energy of whatever sign or planet it joins and exaggerates it about ten times over, turning a small wish into extreme, insatiable greed.
