Dig Balam 1

Overview

Dig Balam (directional strength) is the extra power a planet gains from the angular house — the Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th) — that matches its favoured direction. There are eight rules by which a planet can earn it. • Dig Balam is one of the tests used to judge which planet is strongest in a sign. It is only strength — like the sharpness of a knife — it does not say good or bad. • Rule 1 — direct placement: when a planet physically sits in its own Dig Balam Kendra, it receives the full 100% directional strength. • The other seven rules (Lessons 2–8) let a planet earn Dig Balam indirectly — even when it is NOT in its Kendra — through its star lord, the Kendra lord, or a planet occupying that Kendra.
