Overview

Ketu is the south lunar node (the "tail") — a shadow planet, not a physical body. Its story explains everything about it: when the milk-ocean was churned and the demon Svarbhanu stole a sip of amrita, Vishnu severed him — his head became Rahu and his headless body became Ketu. Rahu keeps the head and eyes, so he forever craves the world; Ketu has no eyes to see and desire, so he turns away from it.
