Yoga in panchanga is NOT the same as the 12-house yogas of natal astrology. The panchanga yoga is calculated from the angular sum of the Sun and Moon — every 13°20' of combined motion creates one yoga, giving 27 in total.
The 27 yogas
In order: Vishkambha, Priti, Ayushman, Saubhagya, Shobhana, Atiganda, Sukarma, Dhriti, Shula, Ganda, Vriddhi, Dhruva, Vyaghata, Harshana, Vajra, Siddhi, Vyatipata, Variyan, Parigha, Shiva, Siddha, Sadhya, Shubha, Shukla, Brahma, Indra, Vaidhriti.
The 9 inauspicious yogas (avoid)
Classical texts list nine yogas as inauspicious and best avoided for new beginnings:
- Vishkambha (1) — first 3 ghatis (~72 min) inauspicious; rest fine.
- Atiganda (6) — first 6 ghatis inauspicious.
- Shula (9) — first 5 ghatis inauspicious.
- Ganda (10) — first 6 ghatis inauspicious.
- Vyaghata (13) — first 9 ghatis inauspicious.
- Vajra (15) — first 9 ghatis inauspicious.
- Vyatipata (17) — entire yoga inauspicious. Strong avoidance.
- Parigha (19) — first half inauspicious.
- Vaidhriti (27) — entire yoga inauspicious. Strong avoidance.
The favourable yogas
The remaining 18 yogas — Priti, Ayushman, Saubhagya, Shobhana, Sukarma, Dhriti, Vriddhi, Dhruva, Harshana, Siddhi, Variyan, Shiva, Siddha, Sadhya, Shubha, Shukla, Brahma, Indra — are all considered auspicious. Of these, Siddhi, Shubha, Amrita (rare), Sadhya, Shukla and Brahma are highly recommended for major acts.
How the filter works
By default all 27 yogas are allowed. Uncheck the 9 inauspicious yogas (Vishkambha, Atiganda, Shula, Ganda, Vyaghata, Vajra, Vyatipata, Parigha, Vaidhriti) — especially Vyatipata and Vaidhriti, which are the strongest avoids.
