Key chart data used in this example:

  • House occupancy: H1: Mars  |  H5: Moon  |  H6: Ketu  |  H10: Saturn + Venus  |  H11: Mercury + Sun  |  H12: Jupiter + Rahu
  • Venus is in Bhava 10, House 10. Venus lords H2 + H7. Venus is a Functional Malefic (FM) for Aries ascendant.
  • Aries lordships: Su: H5  |  Mo: H4  |  Ma: H1 + H8  |  Me: H3 + H6  |  Ju: H9 + H12  |  Ve: H2 + H7  |  Sa: H10 + H11

Step 1 — Light Score

Light represents a planet's operational brightness, determined by the RC 7-Rule System (retrograde analysis). Each of the three entities (Planet, Star Lord, Powerful Planet) carries a Light value that modifies its entity score.

Mars's Default Light

Mars is direct in the natal chart (not retrograde at birth on 14-Mar-1987). After evaluating rules R1 through R7 of the retrograde system, a direct planet with no retrograde disruption receives a Default Light of 100.

Mars Default Light = 100

Which Light applies to each entity?

The rule for Light assignment is:

  • Planet entity → uses the original planet's Default Light (Mars's Light).
  • Star Lord entity → uses the original planet's Default Light (Mars's Light).
  • Powerful Planet entity → if PW is the same planet as SL, use the original planet's Default Light. If PW ≠ SL, use PW's own Powerful Light (R5 skipped).

In this chart, PW = Venus and SL = Venus — they are the same planet. Therefore PW also uses Mars's Default Light.

All three entities use Mars's Default Light = 100

Step 2 — Performance: Planet Entity (20%)

The Planet entity represents Mars itself. Its entity score combines a Position Score (70% weight) and a Lordship Association score (30% weight).

Position Score

Mars sits at Bhava 12, House 1. Since Bhava ≠ House, we apply the 75/25 split using Mars's Aries position table.

Position = BhavaTable[12] × 75% + BhavaTable[1] × 25%

Looking up Mars's scores in the Aries position table:

House H1H2H3H4H5H6 H7H8H9H10H11H12
Mars 958085408085 658580958070

Position = 70 × 0.75 + 95 × 0.25 = 52.50 + 23.75 = 76.25

Lordship Association (Planet Entity)

The Planet entity is not penalized for its own lordship. It is only penalized for dusthana lordships brought in by conjunction and aspect.

  • Mars is in House 1. Which planets conjunct Mars in H1? None — Mars is alone in H1.
  • Check special aspects reaching H1: Saturn (H10) casts its 7th aspect to H4, 3rd aspect to H12, 10th aspect to H7 — none hit H1. Jupiter (H12) casts its 7th aspect to H6, 5th aspect to H4, 9th aspect to H8 — none hit H1. No other planet has special aspects that reach H1.
  • Result: no conjunction or aspect penalties apply.

Planet LA = 100 (no penalties)

Planet Entity Score

Entity Score = Position × 70% + LA × 30%

= 76.25 × 0.70 + 100 × 0.30

= 53.375 + 30.00 = 83.375

Apply Light:

Entity Final = 83.375 × 100 / 100 = 83.375

Step 3 — Performance: Star Lord Entity (50%)

Star Lord = Venus. The SL entity is the most influential component, carrying 50% of Performance.

Position Score

Important: We always use the original planet's position table, not Venus's own table. So we look up Venus's Bhava/House position in Mars's Aries table.

Venus is at Bhava 10, House 10 — Bhava = House, so no 75/25 split is needed. We use the full score.

Position = BhavaTable[10] = 95

Lordship Association (SL Entity)

The SL entity is penalized for the SL's own lordship plus any conjunction penalties from planets conjunct the SL.

  • Venus's own lordship: Venus lords H2 and H7. The dusthana list is H3, H6, H8, H12. Neither H2 nor H7 is a dusthana → no own penalty.
  • Venus's conjunction: Venus is in H10 with Saturn. Saturn lords H10 and H11. Neither is a dusthana → no conjunction penalty.

SL LA = 100 (no penalties)

SL Entity Score

Entity Score = 95 × 0.70 + 100 × 0.30 = 66.50 + 30.00 = 96.50

Apply Light (Mars's Default Light = 100):

Entity Final = 96.50 × 100 / 100 = 96.50

Step 4 — Performance: Powerful Planet Entity (30%)

Powerful Planet = Venus (same as Star Lord).

Position Score

Same lookup as the SL entity — Venus at B10/H10, using Mars's Aries table.

Position = BhavaTable[10] = 95

Lordship Association (PW Entity)

The PW entity is penalized for the PW's own lordship plus any conjunction penalties — the same analysis as SL above.

  • Venus's own lordship: H2 + H7 — no dusthana → no penalty.
  • Venus's conjunction: Saturn in H10, lords H10 + H11 — no dusthana → no penalty.

PW LA = 100 (no penalties)

PW Entity Score

Entity Score = 95 × 0.70 + 100 × 0.30 = 66.50 + 30.00 = 96.50

PW Light

Since PW (Venus) is the same planet as SL (Venus), the rule dictates that PW uses the original planet's Default Light = 100.

Entity Final = 96.50 × 100 / 100 = 96.50

Step 5 — Total Performance

Performance combines the three entity scores with their respective weights.

Performance = Planet × 20% + SL × 50% + PW × 30%

Entity Score Weight Contribution
Planet (Mars) 83.375 20% 16.675
Star Lord (Venus) 96.50 50% 48.25
Powerful Planet (Venus) 96.50 30% 28.95
Total Performance 93.875

Performance = 16.675 + 48.25 + 28.95 = 93.875

Step 6 — Resource Score

Resource measures a planet's intrinsic dignity — its raw material regardless of where it sits in the chart. It is composed of Base + Boosters − Negatives, clamped to 0–100.

Base

Mars is in Aries — its own sign. Mars is also within the Mooltrikona range (0°–12° Aries), so the highest base condition applies.

Base = 100 (Own Sign + Mooltrikona)

Boosters

Booster Points Reason
Functional Benefic +5 Mars is FB for Aries ascendant
No War +3 Mars is not in planetary war (no planet within 1°)
No Combustion +3 Mars is not combust (far from the Sun)
Total Boosters +11

Negatives

No negatives apply. Mars is not in Gandantara, not combust, not a war loser, and has no bad associations.

Final Resource

Resource = 100 + 11 − 0 = 111 → clamped to 100

Step 7 — Final Capacity

Capacity combines Performance (70%) and Resource (30%) into a single score.

Capacity = Performance × 70% + Resource × 30%

= 93.875 × 0.70 + 100 × 0.30

= 65.7125 + 30.00

= 95.71

Step 8 — Invert Check

The Invert rule applies only to Functional Malefics. A high score for an FM planet means it is very effective at causing harm, so the score is inverted (100 − score) to reflect that a "strong malefic" is actually bad for the native.

Mars is a Functional Benefic for Aries ascendant. Therefore Invert does NOT apply.

Final Score = 95.71 → rounded to 96

Rating: Excellent — Mars is an extremely capable planet in this chart. As the Lagna lord in its own sign with Mooltrikona dignity, and with Venus (SL and PW) well-placed in H10 with no dusthana lordship penalties, Mars achieves a near-perfect score.
