Barack Obama was the 44th president of the United States, and the first Black American to hold the office. Born in Honolulu to a Kenyan father and an American mother who separated when he was two, he worked as a community organiser in Chicago, edited the Harvard Law Review, and went from the Illinois state senate to the White House in four years. He served two terms, from 2009 to 2017, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in his first year.

The ascendant is Capricorn at 24.73°, with Jupiter and Saturn both sitting in it and both retrograde. The judgement made from that, before any date was discussed, was that this is a self-made chart — not born with a golden spoon, in the words used — because the fourth lord Mars has fallen into the eighth house in Leo, conjunct Rahu, while Ketu sits in the second, the house of family.
Then the line that dated the whole reading: the sixth, eighth and twelfth lords are all connected to the ascendant. Every difficult house reports to the ascendant, so nothing arrives without being fought for first. It is not a cake walk was the phrase, spoken at 2:40 — before the participant had confirmed a single event.
The Moon exalted, and the family that came apart anyway
The Moon is exalted in Taurus at 10.04° in the fifth house, in its own Rohini. That is the one soft thing in the chart, and it is what the reading uses to call the early years normal rather than bad: an ordinary family situation, no miracle and no disaster.
Against it, the fourth lord in the eighth with Rahu. Both readings were given at once and both turned out to be the same story — a childhood that was materially unremarkable and structurally broken. When the participant confirmed the 1964 divorce, the note made was simply that the eighth house connection to the family had already been read out.
Jupiter: the period that made the president
The dasha sequence is Moon to 1971, Mars to 1978, Rahu to 1996, then Jupiter from 1996 to 2012. Jupiter is retrograde and debilitated in Capricorn on the ascendant — and the reading refuses to treat that as a defect, because Saturn owns the sign it falls in and sits there itself, which cancels the debilitation.
What was said at 4:01, in a chart with no name attached: 1997 to 2012 — this is the period that brings him fame he has not had before. Whatever is going to happen, happens in this one. Obama entered the Illinois senate in 1997, the US Senate in 2005 and the White House in 2009. Saturn's period, from 2012, was called average in the same breath — nothing new, just running on the name already made.
Why the eighth house is the one that elected him
Rahu and Mars are conjunct in the eighth, and the reading puts Rahu in the lead of the pair, with Ketu as its source. When the 2004 landslide came up, the explanation given was that an eighth house this strongly occupied has no ceiling: there is no extreme limit here, so the extreme is what worked out. Sudden, disproportionate, unearned by ordinary steps — which is a fair description of a first-term state senator becoming president.
The same house explains the shape of the exit. The Sun is the eighth lord for this ascendant, and Venus follows it; from 2018 the reading has nothing to lift, only what is already there to be carried forward.
