Five Fold Friendship Calculator

The Five Fold Friendship Calculator combines the permanent (Naisargika) friendships between the seven planets with the chart-specific (Tatkalika) friendships derived from your birth positions. The result is the Pancha Maitri or five-fold friendship matrix used in classical Vedic astrology to judge whether a planet is acting as a great friend, friend, neutral, enemy, or great enemy in your kundali. This refined relationship is essential for accurate prediction and for evaluating Saptavargaja Bala within Shadbala.

Naisargika and Tatkalika Friendship

Naisargika friendship is the natural and unchanging relationship between any two of the seven planets from the Sun through Saturn. It is determined by classical rulerships of exaltation, moolatrikona, and own signs. For example, the Sun is naturally friendly with the Moon, Mars, and Jupiter, neutral toward Mercury, and inimical toward Venus and Saturn. Tatkalika or temporary friendship depends entirely on the relative positions of planets in your chart. Any planet placed in the second, third, fourth, tenth, eleventh, or twelfth from another planet becomes its temporary friend; the rest are temporary enemies.

How the Five-Fold Result Is Derived

The calculator first computes the Naisargika status of each planetary pair from the standard table, then walks through the chart to assign Tatkalika status from each planet to the other six. The two layers are then combined according to Parashara's rule. A friend in both layers becomes a great friend or Adhi Mitra. Friend in one and neutral in the other becomes a friend or Mitra. Friend in one and enemy in the other becomes neutral or Sama. Enemy plus neutral becomes enemy or Shatru. Enemy in both becomes a great enemy or Adhi Shatru.

How to Use the Matrix

A planet placed in the sign of a great friend or friend produces benefic outcomes for the houses it owns and occupies, often without effort. The same planet placed in the sign of a great enemy struggles to deliver its natural significations and may produce delays, conflicts, or partial results. The five-fold matrix is also used inside the Saptavargaja Bala, which checks dignity across seven divisional charts. Each occurrence of friend, great friend, neutral, enemy, or great enemy contributes a fixed quantity of rupas to the planet's positional strength.

Why Run a Pancha Maitri Report

  • Identifies whether each planet is well-supported or hostile in your chart.
  • Refines basic dignity readings beyond simple exaltation and debilitation.
  • Feeds directly into Shadbala calculations through Saptavargaja Bala.
  • Helps interpret the strength of yoga karakas and dasha lords.
  • Reveals chart-specific allies that natural-friendship tables would miss.
