What is 8 Planets Matching?

8 Planets Matching performs a holistic cross-chart comparison of all 8 classical Vedic planets — Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and Rahu (or the 8th being Ketu in some traditions). Rather than focusing on one planet or house, this rule evaluates the overall planetary interaction pattern between both charts to assess overall compatibility at every life level.

How the Cross-Chart Analysis Works

For each planet in the male's chart, its position is evaluated against the female's chart — specifically:

  1. House placement: Which house does the male's planet fall in the female's chart? (e.g., male's Venus in the female's 7th house is very auspicious)
  2. Sign relationship: Is the male's planet in a friendly, neutral, or enemy sign relationship with the same planet in the female's chart?
  3. Aspect exchange: Do the male's planets favorably aspect the female's key marriage houses (7th, 5th, 1st) and vice versa?

Key Favorable Indicators

  • Male's Jupiter falls in or aspects female's 7th, 5th, or 1st house — Very auspicious
  • Male's Venus falls in female's 1st, 5th, or 7th house — Strong romantic compatibility
  • Female's Moon is aspected by male's Jupiter — Emotional security for female
  • Both charts have Venus in compatible signs — Romantic harmony

Key Challenging Indicators

  • Male's Saturn in female's 7th house — Restriction in marriage
  • Male's Mars in female's 8th house — Potential conflict or aggression
  • Rahu/Ketu axis of one partner closely overlapping key houses of the other — Karmic intensity (mixed)

Significance

The 8 Planets Matching rule provides the broadest view of compatibility — looking at all life dimensions simultaneously rather than just the Moon or Ascendant. A comprehensive planetary match means that both partners' charts are mutually supportive across all areas of life — emotional, intellectual, physical, financial, spiritual, and karmic.

This rule is best assessed by an experienced astrologer who can synthesize all cross-chart planetary interactions. The RVA calculator provides an algorithmic approximation that highlights the most significant positive and negative cross-chart planetary contacts.
