What are Attractions?

Attractions is the first of the Western Synastry rules in the RVA matching system. It examines the cross-chart aspects that create magnetic romantic and physical attraction between two people. These are the planetary contacts that produce the "spark" — the immediate pull, admiration, and desire that forms the foundation of romantic interest.

Unlike Vedic kutas which use sign-based relationships, Western synastry uses degree-based aspects — conjunctions, trines, sextiles, squares, and oppositions between specific planets across both charts.

Key Attraction Aspects

AspectPlanets InvolvedNature of Attraction
Conjunction (0°)Male Venus ↔ Female Mars (or vice versa)Intense romantic and sexual pull
Conjunction / TrineSun ↔ Moon (cross-chart)Deep soul-level attraction
Conjunction / TrineVenus ↔ Ascendant (cross-chart)One partner finds the other irresistibly beautiful
ConjunctionVenus ↔ Venus (cross-chart)Shared aesthetic and romantic values
Trine (120°)Venus ↔ Mars (cross-chart)Easy, flowing romantic chemistry
Sextile (60°)Venus ↔ Jupiter (cross-chart)Warmth, generosity, optimism together
Opposition (180°)Venus ↔ Mars (cross-chart)Strong magnetic tension — classic attraction

Most Powerful Attraction Indicators

  1. Male Venus conjunct Female Ascendant — he sees her as his ideal woman; she feels admired and beautiful around him
  2. Male Mars conjunct Female Venus — raw romantic and sexual chemistry; passionate connection
  3. Sun conjunct Moon (cross-chart) — one person's Sun lights up the other's emotional world; deep natural compatibility
  4. Venus trine or conjunct Venus (cross-chart) — shared love language and aesthetic sensibility

Weak or Absent Attractions

When no strong cross-chart attraction aspects exist, the relationship may feel friendly and respectful but lack romantic spark. Partners might describe each other as "a good person, just not my type." Strong Vedic compatibility scores can sustain such relationships, but the Western attraction layer adds the chemistry that keeps partners drawn to each other over time.

Significance in RVA System

RVA's inclusion of Western Synastry rules adds a degree-precision layer to the predominantly sign-based Vedic system. Attractions specifically captures the romantic chemistry that Vedic kutas (which measure compatibility patterns) do not directly measure. A match can be perfectly compatible on all Vedic rules yet lack attraction — or highly attracted despite some Vedic challenges — and this rule captures that dynamic.
