Antardasha (Bhukti) Calculator

The Antardasha (Bhukti) Calculator computes the second level of Vimshottari Dasha — the sub-periods within your currently-running Mahadasha. Each Mahadasha is divided into nine Antardashas in the standard planetary order (Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury), with durations proportional to the parent Mahadasha. Antardasha is where the broad themes of the Mahadasha begin to take recognizable form.

How Antardasha is Calculated

The duration of each Antardasha within a Mahadasha is proportional: antardasha_years = mahadasha_years × antar_lord_years / 120. A 17-year Mercury Mahadasha, for example, contains a Mercury Antardasha of 17 × 17 / 120 ≈ 2.41 years, then a Ketu Antardasha of 17 × 7 / 120 ≈ 0.99 years, and so on through all nine planetary lords. The sequence starts from the Mahadasha lord itself and then proceeds through the standard Vimshottari order.

Why Antardasha Matters

The Mahadasha sets the broad twenty- or seventeen-year backdrop, but the Antardasha is where its themes actually surface. The same Saturn Mahadasha plays very differently when its Antardasha lord is Jupiter versus when it is Mars. Astrologers read the Antardasha alongside the Mahadasha to predict the specific months and years during which Mahadasha promises ripen — or fail to.

What You Get from this Calculator

  • All nine Antardashas of your currently-running Mahadasha, with precise start and end dates.
  • The currently-active Antardasha highlighted so you can see where you stand right now.
  • Integration with the rest of the Vimshottari tree — drill further into Pratyantar, Sookshma and Praan from the same chart.

When to Use Antardasha

Use Antardasha when you need to understand which sub-period of your Mahadasha is currently active and what its themes are. It is the most-commonly-cited dasha layer in chart consultations — the level at which marriage, career changes, relocations, financial shifts and major life events are typically timed.
